As you probably know by now, starting August 16, 2010 after the maintenance, the Booster Pill will be available at the Perfect World Item Mall (press O to access the Item Mall in-game). So here’s a guide on how to use the Soul Booster and the Booster Pill.
How to use the Soul Booster?
You can access the Soul Booster through the Box Icon on the Character panel
Or through the Crystal Icon in the Community panel.
Clicking either icon will bring you to the Soul Booster panel.
There are 5 Soul Booster packages to choose from.
8x Boost EXP for 1 hour, 20 hours Downtime. (3 Booster Pills)
12x Boost EXP for 1 hour, 20 hours Downtime (5 Booster Pills) – Best value for time
5x Boost EXP for 2 hours, 19 hours Downtime (3 Booster Pills)
6x Boost EXP for 2 hours, 19 hours Downtime (4 Booster Pills)
4x Boost EXP for 3 hours, 18 hours Downtime (3 Booster Pills) – Best value for money
- You can only have one of these packages active at any one given time.
- You can only activate one of these packages per day. (Resets at midnight)
Important: Boosted EXP only affects EXP earned from killing Monsters and does not affect Quests.
Where to get the Booster Pill?
You can buy Booster Pills in the Item Mall, under Tool > Upgrading
Once you have selected your package and spent the appropriate number of Soul Boosters, your Soul Booster panel will change to the timer panel.
You will be set on Cooldown time (1x EXP) by default. When you are ready to level, click Activate to begin the Boost.
When you are set on Boost time, you will have a modified EXP rate as per your selection.
Important: Boosted EXP rate adds to (not multiplies by) any server EXP mod present minus 1.
- Example 1: With a server mod of 2x, a 12x package will give you 13x (12x EXP + Server mod of 2x – 1 = 13)
- Example 2: With a server mod of 4x, an 8x package will give you 11x (8x EXP + Server mod of 4x – 1 = 11)
You can click Pause to temporarily suspend Soul Boost time. (Useful when you are restocking in town or traveling to or from leveling grounds) Soul Booster is also automatically paused when you disconnect, voluntarily or forcibly However, 1 minute of Soul Boost time will be deducted when you re-activate Soul Booster. When you log on, Soul Boost time is Paused by default. You will need to click Activate to enter Soul Boost time once more.
While the Soul Boost time is Paused, or when you have used up the Soul Boost time, you will be placed in Cooldown time. You your EXP rate will be set to 1x. (multiplied by the current server EXP mod rate)
Cooldown time is consumed first while you are online.
You can stack a maximum of 256 hours of Cooldown time. You cannot use the Soul Booster if doing so will bring you above 256 hours of Cooldown time.
If you are disconnected from the server, voluntarily or forcibly, or when you are out of both Boost time and Cooldown time, you will enter Downtime. While in Downtime, your EXP rate will be set to 0.1x. (multiplied by the current server EXP mod rate)
Downtime is consumed when you are offline.
You can stack a maximum of 1024 hours of Downtime. You cannot use the Soul Booster if doing so will bring you above 1024 hours of Downtime.
In a nutshell, your Boost time, Cooldown time and Downtime from one package will total 24 hours. You can pick the Soul Booster package that will best complement your playing style and playtime, in order to maximize your EXP gains.
Taking into account the various logins, pauses and unforeseen disconnections, it may be a bit confusing to keep track of your Boost time, Cooldown time and Downtimes, so here are a few scenarios to help.
Scenario 1: Pausing to travel, restock or break.
Starting Values: 55 min Boost, 3 hours Cooldown, 20 hours Downtime
While Xiangji is running the Dusk Palace, the Clan leader calls for a Holy-Moon Valley run and requests her to assist. The party is currently assembling and it will take them some time to get to the dungeon. Knowing that her clanmates will take time to prepare and travel to Buddha City, Xiangji Pauses her Soul Boost timer, entering Cooldown time. 10 minutes later (10 minutes subtracted from Cooldown time), the party is inside Mysterious-Moon Valley and is about to pull the first mob. Xiangji activates Soul Booster (subtracting 1 minute from the timer) and continues the run with the boosted EXP.
Ending Values: 54 min Boost, 2 hours 50 min Cooldown, 20 hours Downtime
Scenario 2: Involuntary disconnection
Starting Values: 34 min Boost, 2 hours 50 min Cooldown, 20 hours Downtime
Some time into the run, a power outage occurs, and Xiangji is disconnected. Her Soul Boost is automatically paused upon disconnection. 30 minutes later (30 minutes subtracted from Downtime), power is restored and she manages to reconnect to the game. She is reinvited into the party, and activates her Soul Booster (subtracting 1 minute from the timer) and resumes the run.
Ending Values: 33 min Boost, 2 hours 50 min Cooldown, 19 hours 30 min Downtime
Scenario 3: Transitioning between Soul Boost time and Cooldown time
Starting Values: 5 min Boost, 2 hours 50 min Cooldown, 19 hours 30 min Downtime
The party is about to begin the Ghost Child encounter. They decide to proceed safely and opt for a second Yu Ling healer as insurance. The encounter takes 8 minutes to complete, draining the remaining 5 minutes from Xiangji’s Soul Boost time, shifting her into Cooldown time (5 minutes subtracted from Soul Booster time, 3 minutes subtracted from Cooldown time). Unfortunately, as she is in Cooldown time, she only receives the regular EXP rate from the encounter. Xiangji sighs in resignation. There goes today’s Soul Booster.
Ending Values: 0 min Boost, 2 hours 47 min Cooldown, 19 hours 30 min Downtime
Scenario 4: Downtime
Starting Values: 0 min Boost, 5 min Cooldown, 19 hours 30 min Downtime
A few more Holy-Moon instances later, the party leader calls the run. Seeing that there are only 5 minutes remaining on the timer, Xiangji spends her time completing the daily Crazy Stone and Bent Brooch for a Villa quests. The EXP rewards for quest rewards aren’t affected by modified EXP rates, after all. 20 minutes later (5 minutes subtracted from Cooldown time, then 15 minutes subtracted from Downtime) Her daily routine with the Yu Ling completed, Xiangji logs off and prepares to level her Wu Shih character.
Ending Values: 0 min Boost, 0 min Cooldown, 19 hours 15 min Downtime
Scenario 5: Stacking values from a leftover Soul Booster
Starting Values: 0 min Boost, 0 min Cooldown, 2 hours 18 min Downtime
The next day, Xiangji logs on at an earlier time since school let out early. She selects the 6x/2 hours package and begins to play. The new Soul Boost time (2 hours), Cooldown time (3 hours) and Downtime (19 hours) values are added to her current values. It’s time to continue leveling.
Ending Values: 2 hours Boost, 3 hours Cooldown, 21 hours 18 min Downtime
Hopefully, this will help you become more efficient and make your leveling as fast as possible at your own pace.
